IPL 2013 Rules

The IPL T20 cricket has a number of rules devised for the teams and its franchises to follow. The first set of IPL Rules states that there should be a minimum of 16 players in each of the eight teams of IPL.
Also it should have a physio and a coach. At least two players must be selected from the under 22 group of BCCI. The number of local players has to be eight.

The number of foreign players should not be more than 10 and among them only four can be present in the team of 11 playing the match. There are also IPL auction rules that needs to be followed while acquiring players through annual auction. This applies while buying domestic players and international players. Also the team owners must adhere to rules regarding buying, trading and signing new players for their team.

When it comes to the IPL playoff rules, it is a bit different from the usual play offs. This was introduced in the last IPL and the rules are Team 1 and team 2 will play in the Qualifier 1 and Team 3 and Team 4 in the Eliminator round. The team that loses in the eliminator round will be eliminated. The winning team would play against the losing team in the qualifier 1. The winner of the qualifier 2 would proceed to finals and compete with the winner of qualifier 1.

Some of the team composition rules are:
  1. Minimum squad strength of 16 players plus one physio and a coach.
  2. No more than 11 foreign players in the squad and maximum 4 foreign players should be in the playing eleven.
  3. Minimum of 14 Indian players must be included in each squad.
  4. A minimum of 6 players from the BCCI under-22 pool in each squad.
